A couple of years ago, I started my Etsy shop to try my hand at selling my artwork and creations both to help supplement my retirement (2016, yeah!!) and to find homes for the mountain of canvases, jewelry, etc. . . that was filling my home and driving my husband nuts. When asked to provide a name for my shop, I was stumped. I wanted a name that would inspire me. Poppies have always been a particular favorite of mine. They are both colorful and wild, but will avail themselves to adorn your garden, if asked politely. Like the magical red poppies in the film "The Wizard of Oz" that Dorothy discovered on her journey to the Emerald City, I felt they were the perfect symbol for my new adventure. The "Peddler" part of the name is in honor of my husband of 27 years who is an avid cyclist and very supportive of me as an artist. I also enjoy riding my bike, however, my style of biking involves a slow easy ride, preferably along our coast, with a picnic and bottle of wine in my basket. That is how the "Red Poppy Peddler" was born.
In future posts, I hope to share with you my journey for artistic inspiration and the artwork created.
